About Us

Hi, I’m Emily, the founder of The Mindful Tutor and a qualified Academic Coach

My passion is supporting students to build confidence, clarity, and strong learning skills so they can feel more capable and in control of their studies—at school, at university, and beyond.

While tutoring is often associated with improving grades, I believe meaningful progress comes from teaching students how to learn. As an academic coach, I work with students to develop practical study skills, time management, organisation, and planning strategies, alongside the confidence and independence needed for long-term success.

I have particular experience supporting students with ADHD, using structured, practical approaches that reduce overwhelm and support focus, motivation, and follow-through. This includes helping students break tasks into manageable steps, build realistic routines, use planners effectively, and develop strategies for procrastination, emotional regulation, and workload management.

Building strong rapport and trust with each student is central to my approach. Every learner is different, and I take the time to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals so support is genuinely personalised and effective. When students feel understood and supported, confidence grows—and learning becomes calmer and more achievable.

Outside of my work with students, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my own children and continuing to learn new skills myself—something I strongly encourage in the students I support.

The Mindful Tutor Story

Since moving to the Sunshine Coast from the UK in 2005, I have embraced the Coast lifestyle and feel very fortunate to be raising my family here, surrounded by natural beauty.

My career in education began with teaching English to international students, where I worked with learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. This experience sparked my passion for education and gave me a strong foundation in adapting teaching approaches to suit individual learning needs.

From there, I transitioned into Learning Support, working closely with students throughout high school. These roles strengthened my understanding of differentiation, executive functioning, and the importance of tailored academic support. Through this work, I have seen firsthand the significant impact that structured academic coaching—combined with encouragement and emotional support—can have on a student’s confidence, mindset, and ability to succeed.

This combination of experience continues to inform my academic coaching approach today, allowing me to support students in practical, personalised, and meaningful ways.

Who Do We Help?

Academic support is often associated with “getting better grades,” but the path to improvement looks different for every student. At The Mindful Tutor, support is tailored to the individual, combining academic coaching with targeted tutoring to address both learning skills and confidence.

I work with students who:

  • Experience anxiety or stress related to school or study, which can impact confidence, motivation, and self-esteem
  • Feel overwhelmed by workload or expectations, leading to avoidance, frustration, or disengagement
  • Are neurodiverse, including students with ADHD, who may experience challenges with attention, organisation, planning, task initiation, or follow-through
  • Need explicit support in developing executive function skills, such as time management, prioritisation, organisation, and independent study habits
  • Experience difficulties with working memory, reading, writing, or processing information
  • Are struggling with specific subjects, homework, assessments, or understanding class content
  • Want to develop clearer study strategies and greater independence in their learning
